This is an ongoing freelance project with a fitness enthusiast motivated to disrupt the fitness tracking industry with an app that utilizes AI to provide workout insights and personalized recommendations through a virtual coach, Kai. Additionally, our system of logging workouts is inspired by the freeform notetaking format that allow users to capture their routines in a more natural, flexible way.
Our goal is to provide accessible coaching and a comprehensive method of tracking workouts to help users stay consistent, understand their progress, and achieve their fitness goals more effectively.
Background
The Problem
Most fitness tracking apps rely on rigid input systems and generic data summaries that fail to provide meaningful, personalized insights. Users often find themselves manually logging sets and reps into pre-defined templates, which can feel tedious, restrictive, and disconnected from how they actually think about their workouts.
Additionally, while many platforms collect workout data, few offer smart, actionable feedback. This leaves users, especially those without a coach, unsure of how to optimize their routines or understand their progress in a meaningful way.
Solution
The Challenge
Due to time and availability constraints, minimal user research was conducted so we began designing based on personal experiences, internal discussions, and current competitors. While this initially made good progress, we frequently revisited flows and rethought decisions the more our designs evolved.

Define
Translating client goals to user flows
The client provided a detailed list of features differentiating free and premium users. Using this as a foundation, we began by defining 4 core screens for the navigation bar that would encompass all key requirements. From there, we specified user flows and features as we designed low-fidelity wireframes.
